Voter Services/Regisration Program

I. General Description

LWVNAZ Voter Services/Voter Registration Team sets up and conducts voter registration at various locations throughout the Verde Valley (Camp Verde, Clarkdale, Cottonwood, Sedona, and Village of Oak Creek) and Flagstaff. In addition, selected members of the team visit area high schools each semester, speak with government classes about the importance of voting in a democracy, and register age-eligible students to vote.

Members of the Voter Services/Voter Registration Team are organized into working groups assigned to communities and locations based on where they live and their particular interests. Voter registration sites include, and are not limited to, public libraries, area farmers’ markets, periodic special events, and other locations by request.

II. Time Frame (Time of Year and Specific Times)

Voter registration is an ongoing program throughout the year. Typically, voter registration efforts are heightened the year prior to a primary or midterm election and in advance of a general election.

III. Experience/Training Availability

No prior knowledge or experience with voter registration is required. Training and materials to conduct voter registration are provided through periodic team meetings, either in person or virtually (Zoom).

Voter Services/Voter Registration Chair meets periodically with both Coconino County and Yavapai County Recorders and Election Officials to receive an update on changes in voter registration procedures. Information from these meetings are shared with team members.

IV. Potential Program Participant Roles

  • Actively participate in team meetings (generally, three during any given election cycle)
  • Select preferred location in the area served by LWV NAZ and commit to a schedule of voter registration dates (typically, team members work in pairs and volunteer two or four hours per shift). During an election cycle, weekly voter registration sites are provided at various locations.
  • Record data at each voter registration event, including how many people registered and an estimate of how many people team members spoke with during the voter registration event/shift
  • Provide input and feedback on ways to continuously improve voter registration efforts

V. In-Person/Remote

Voter Services/Voter Registration Team members may attend meetings in-person or virtually (via Zoom). For initial training, planning and preparation in advance of an election cycle, in-person participation is preferred. Actual voter registration activities are conducted in-person.

VI. League Membership Requirements

Voter Services/Voter Registration Team members are members of LWV.

On occasion, members of nonpartisan, community-based organizations aligned with the mission of the League, participate with LWVNAZ members in voter registration efforts.

All activities are run by volunteers in our communities. We welcome your participation.

If you would like to volunteer, send an email to lwvnaz@gmail.com.
